Frequently Asked Questions

Wedding dress price range?

Made to order £315 - £1300
This is for a brand new dress made to order - size/colour. Alterations are not included. Sale gowns range from £150-£500 & changed frequently

Do I need an appointment?

Yes if you wish to try on dresses as you will require use of the private fitting room and assistance when trying on the dresses. Appointments can be made by telephone or you can book directly on the contacts us page.

How long will my appointment last for?

For a first appointment I usually put aside 1 1/2 hours! This is so you can try on as many dresses as you like and really get a feel for styles. I don’t believe brides should be rushed when trying on. Subsequent appointments will be shorter.

What do I need to bring for an appointment?

Just you! Well and a bridesmaid or family member or 2. If you wish you may bring some heels & a strapless bra but it isn’t essential for a first appointment.

Just remember this is the fun part so don’t get stressed!

If the dress is made to order shouldn't it fit me perfectly when it arrives?

A dress that is 'made to order' is made to a set of standard measurements e.g size 10, 12, 14 . Therefor once the dress arrives it may need slightly altering in one area or another to achieve a perfect fit.
Dresses that are 'made to measure' are made to a brides specific measurments. Made to measure dresses are therefor custom made and cost far more.

When should I start looking for my wedding dress?

Every bride is individual and this depends on the wedding date. Most brides like to get the dress sorted out early so that all other aspects of the wedding can be arranged to suit the style of the dress for e.g. Accessories and flowers and bridesmaids.
I would say start to look for ideas about 12 months before and aim to order 6 to 7 months before the wedding date. I have some brides that order more than 12 months before the wedding because they know they have found the right dress. At certain times of the year ex sample dresses are available to buy & take home on the day.

Timescales for ordering a wedding dress?

Aim for at least 6 months in advance of the wedding date, this is a good measure. When you order a wedding dress it is then made in the size/colour you choose, & delivered back to the boutique then alterations/fitting adjust the gown to fit you perfect.

I don’t have long till my wedding can I still buy a wedding dress?

Don't panic, there are many dresses available to buy & take home on the day.  Please see 'sale' for unworn boutique ex samples.
Some dresses can be ordered with a chargeable rush cut service which means we could still order your dress in on time.

What sizes are the dresses? Will they fit me?
The dresses at Alison Jane Bridal are all samples that are for all brides to try on. The sample range in size from a 6 to 20
Brides can try on dresses that are 1 or sometimes 2 sizes smaller or larger as the back of the dress can be clipped to fit. This means that you can see what the dress will look like in your size.
Once you have found ‘the one’  measurements are taken & we order the correct size for you.
Sizes 4 – 32 can be ordered.

But I aim to loose weight. What if I change in size after ordering?

Don’t worry at all. Most brides change size and weight between ordering this is normal. This is where my bridal seamstress comes in! Alterations are expected on most dresses. No one is a standard dress size so for e.g. nipping in at the waist/bust or taking up the length will ensure a perfect fit.

How do I order my wedding dress?

To order your wedding dress immediately a 50% initial payment will be required. The remainder is then due when the dress arrives in the boutique later down the line.

Minimum order lead times approx. 6 months.

Payment plan - The total cost of the dress can be split in to payments if required. This will help spread the cost

Bridesmaids

Bridesmaid price range?

Adult bridesmaid prices £140 - £225

Can I get junior & flower girl dresses?

Yes. Many dresses have a junior option. Flower girl dresses can match the colour & fabric of adult dresses too.

Timescales for ordering bridesmaid dresses

Aim for a minimum of 20 weeks in advance of the wedding date where possible. Again this is due to the fact the dress is ordered in your colour choice & size & is then made & delivered back to the boutique in time for alterations to ensure a perfect fit.
