How long will my appointment last for?

For a first bridal appointment I usually put aside 1 1/2 hours! This is so you can try on as many dresses as you like and really get a feel for styles. I don’t believe brides should be rushed when trying on.

Finding your dress with us on your first visit will be amazing but if you need a little time to think & revisit us then that brilliant too. Subsequent appointments will be shorter.

What do I need to bring for an appointment?

Just you! Well and a bridesmaid or family member or 2. If you wish you may bring some heels & a strapless bra but it isn’t essential for a first appointment.

Just remember this is the fun part so don’t get stressed!

If the dress is made to order will it fit me perfectly when it arrives?

A dress that is 'made to order' is made to a set of standard measurements e.g size 10, 12, 14 .

Therefor once the dress arrives it will need slightly altering in one area or another to achieve a perfect fit. This is normal.  Each label has their own unique size chart (bridal labels tend to work out on the small side)

When should I start looking for my wedding dress?

Every bride is individual and this depends on the wedding date.

Most brides like to get the dress sorted out early so that all other aspects of the wedding can be arranged to suit the style of the dress for e.g. Accessories and flowers and bridesmaids.

Made to order
I would say start to look for ideas about 12 months before and aim to order 7 months before the wedding date. I have some brides that order more than 12 months before the wedding because they know they have found the right dress.

When you order a wedding dress it is then made in the size/colour you choose & delivered back to the boutique for alterations/fitting to adjust the gown to fit you perfect.

Off the rail

Off the rail & sample dresses are available to buy & take home on the day

I don’t have long till my wedding can I still buy a wedding dress?

Yes and don't panic. We have are many dresses at reasonable prices to buy and take home on the day. You could even bag a bargain with one of our unworn boutique sample 'Sale" gowns at £150 - £500. Some of our Made to order dresses can be ordered with a chargeable rush cut service too.

But I aim to loose weight. What if I change in size after ordering?

This is the most asked question by far.

Don’t worry at all. Most brides change size and weight between ordering this is normal. This is where my bridal seamstress comes in! Alterations are expected on most dresses. No one is a standard dress size so for e.g. nipping in at the waist/bust or taking up the length will ensure a perfect fit.

At the time we take the measurments we can chat about your expectations & dress size.

How do I order my wedding dress?

To order your wedding dress immediately a 50% initial payment will be required. The remainder is then due when the dress arrives in the boutique later down the line.

You can secure your dress  with a 25% payment and we also offer IFC payment plans to help spread the cost. Please ask in store for more details - Illustration below.

What sizes are the dresses? Will they fit me?

The dresses at Alison Jane Bridal are all samples that are for all brides to try on. The sample range in size from a 10 to 26. Brides can try on dresses that are 1 or sometimes 2 sizes smaller or larger as the back of the dress can be clipped to fit. Once you have found ‘the one’  measurements are taken & we order the correct size for you.
Sizes 4 – 32 can be ordered & our  silhouette range 18-38.

If you are buying off the rail then your gown can be altered up or down a size to fit.
